A good organization thrives on its employees. There are many companies which take pride in the ethics and the code of conduct that they follow. There are many entrepreneurs who take the ethics and code of conduct as seriously as they take sales because they are aware of the fact that the sales will definitely drop if the ethics within the firm are not taken care of. Here are a few things that you need to make sure that you do not do in office to maintain peace and harmony.
- Mistreating employees:
You might be a manager or a team leader or the owner of the firm as well. You cannot mistreat employees because that is only going to lead to employees quitting your company to join the competitors. This is not only bad for the firm if you pride enchanta, but is also bad for the employees that you mistreat because it can always take a toll on their confidence and self-esteem.
Either way, you cannot afford that because you need the employees in their full potential and best of their functionality. That is not going to be possible if you mistreat them.
- Financial misconduct:
This is a wide array of unethical behavior which can include not paying employees, breech of contracts when it comes to money, tax frauds which can lead to a problem with the government, having secret ties with the competitors for benefits etc. You will have to understand that everyone in the firm is working towards the growth of the firm because they are also looking for personal gain from it.
If you are performing such unethical deeds, you will be hindering the growth of others only for your personal good. This will lead to problems in the future and you will also gain a bad reputation in the industry.
- Misinterpretation/manipulation of facts:
This can also take many forms: wrong advertising, wrong statistics, and false reports for the shareholders, forged presentations and so much more. You will have to make sure that the facts and figures that you use in the company and also outside the company have to be accurate. This does not mean that you will have to let out your trade secrets and strategies to everyone, but make sure that the information that you do provide to the people is true and accurate.
Lying and manipulation on a large scale is going to get caught, and there will be a massive drop in sales when it does. This is going to lead to further losses in money and in reputation.
As outdated as the concept might sound, a set of principles and ethics is a must in any company and industry. Using unethical methods to get a personal gain is not going to be instrumental in any way to the company because it is going to backfire on it. Whatever the company would have gained until then is worthless if they are found guilty of any of these offences.
