Don’t Put up With Slow Broadband: Ways to Improve the Speed

slow broadbandWith new 4G broadband services currently being rolled out across much of the UK, those who still have slow broadband connections are beginning to feel slightly left behind. For the last few years, my internet connection has been excellent, but I do remember how much trouble my previous speed caused.

If you’re broadband seems to be a little slower than it should be you might like to take a quick read through this article to find out about some of the most useful ways of increasing its speed and establishing a sound internet connection. Hopefully some of the techniques I mention will help you out. Enjoy!

Don’t Switch The Router Off

Leaving your router on constantly is the best way of ensuring you attain the best speeds and best quality connection possible. If you switch it off at night your service provider will begin to reduce the speed of your broadband, as it will look like your router has disconnected because the line is too unstable to deal for higher speeds.

Check Security & Signal

If you’ve good poor signal or are using an unsecured connection broadband speed is often far slower than it should be. To avoid this, ensure you’re using a secured connection and if using WiFi, move your computer nearer to the router. If this doesn’t work, try using a cable instead of the WiFi, as this will mean your computer is directly connected to the router. For Router settings you must use 192.168.l.254 in browser.

Understand Traffic Management

Most providers will engage in traffic management in one form or other. This means they’ll adjust the speeds and quality of connections based on certain factors like the time of day, traffic type, and even depending upon the sort of broadband account you have. So make sure you read through your contract and find out how you can use this information to your advantage. For instance, you may find that your provider increases your speed at a certain time each day. With this information you can adjust your usage accordingly to ensure you get the best connection possible when settling down to do your work.

Stay Away From Extension Cables

You’ll find that you receive a much better broadband signal if your router is plugged directly into your telephone socket. Using any kind of extension cable will almost definitely decrease the signal strength, which will result in far slower download times and much more hassle accessing your favourite websites.

So there you have it my friends. Take my advice and you should notice a significant difference in your broadband connection speed. However, if you’ve tried all the techniques listed above and you’re still having trouble, it might be worth looking into switching service providers. To do this you can either make some phone calls or view options online. Either way you should be able to find many different companies who may well be more inclined to help you deal with connectivity issues than your current supplier.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck. I’m sure you’ll sort it out eventually.
